Every year Clark Realty selects a handful of Hawaii Island nonprofit organizations as grant recipients of our Clark Realty Corporation Community Fund (CRCCF). Created in 2005 as a component fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation, your contributions to the CRCCF help support local programs that promote the arts, healthy lifestyles, environmental awareness and lifelong learning.
This past May, six organizations across the island were selected from the many nominees we received from Clark agents. In these posts we’re introducing you to this year’s grantees, describing their various programs and the inspiring ways they are aiding others throughout our island community.
We’re past the mid-point of our annual Community Fund Drive, but there’s still time for our friends, family, clients, and fellow community members to participate with us in supporting these worthwhile groups. Each of the organizations selected as a CRCCF grantee are programs with a proven track record of providing substantial positive benefit in their respective fields. As you get to know our 2015 grantees, we hope you’ll consider joining with us to support these inspiring Hawaii Island programs by contributing to CRCCF 2015.
This week’s post features the fifth of our six grantees:
Clark Realty Community Fund: Supporting Orchid Isle Orchestra
Orchid Isle Orchestra, (OIO), is a Hilo-based community chamber orchestra dedicated to teaching and nurturing musicians of all ages. Founded in 2006 by music director Cathy Young, OIO implemented its current name and structure in 2013. Currently, the group is comprised of 20 musicians ranging in age from 11 to 74, who run the gamut from students to professional musicians and community players. A project of the East Hawaii Cultural Council (EHCC)/Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art, a 501(c)3 non profit, Orchid Isle Orchestra meets regularly at the EHCC to rehearse and perform. These dedicated musical volunteers love sharing their classical music performances with the community free of charge.
Over the past two years, OIO has performed at 20 public events throughout East Hawaii, including local schools, senior centers, holiday concerts, and at cultural events. The musicians perform a variety of classical music from baroque to romantic, as well as popular music and their seasonal concerts often feature a student soloist.
The musicians of Orchid Isle Orchestra enjoy bringing music into people’s lives and they are currently expanding their community presence to bring chamber music to a wider audience throughout East Hawaii. Upcoming endeavors include performing in Hilo’s annual Black and White Night in November and presenting a joint concert with another 2015 CRCCF grantee, the Chamber Orchestra of Kona.
Orchid Isle Orchestra was nominated by Meg Saunders, R(S), of our Hilo office. If you’d like to join us in supporting the Orchid Isle Orchestra, please consider making a donation today to CRCCF. To learn more about Clark Realty’s Community Fund or to make a donation, please click here.
