Hamakua Harvest-Honokaa’s Sunday Farmers Market
Hamakua Harvest opened their Farmers’ Market September 6, 2015.
They are open every Sunday from 9am to 2pm featuring over 20 vendors with room for more! There is live entertainment, great eats and an educational event weekly.
Their second market had over 300 visitors! Live Music was preformed by the Typsy Gypsies, who’s folk inspired music kept the atmosphere light and jovial!
I stopped by and filled up my basket with a diverse selection of produce and gifts. Below is a representation of local vendors.
Shawn Scarcella of Pali Kai Farms in Paauilo featured his non-GMO Papaya’s and produce from Hamakua Agricultural Cooperative.
Diane and Philip Sugerman of Hawaiian Grown Flavors from Honomu had wonderful dried fruit snacks for purchase.
Lisa and Julia Wyman of Ahualoa Farms offered samples of dried macadamia nuts in many flavors. Also on hand were delicious vinaigrettes, local grown coffees and a great selection of the produce sold in their Honokaa Gift Shop right down the road on Mamane St.
Michelle Wissel was there representing Hawaii Island Goat Dairy LLC of Ahualoa. All of their wonderful goat cheeses were on hand to sample.
September 27th they welcome a popular local musician John Hart to the stage doing contemporary and original music from 11am to 1 pm. Come and enjoy the Hawaiian and Contemporary sounds.
On September 27th and October 4th, the market is blessed to have as its educational feature the Wa’a Hamakua, a traditional Hawaiian sailing canoe being built here in Honoka’a. Come learn, talk story and watch the building unfold. Event is on-going in the education tent throughout the market day, all ages welcome. For more information visit: http://waahamakua.net/
