One of the fun discoveries I’ve made since joining the Clark Realty – Hilo office is that several of my coworkers share my passion for running. Rochelle Augustin and Christine Makaweo are both regular runners, and Heather Cole, who recently completed the Hawaii Fire Department’s EMS 5K run with me in Hilo, just trained with CrossFit Big Island and completed the Volcano Rain Forest 10K run.
Heather, a Volcano resident, has been quite an inspiration and was a fun running partner for the EMS event. When I checked in with her after the Volcano Rain Forest Run, she said, “It was exhausting, but I finished it. My mom taught me not to give up once I’ve set my mind to something, so that’s what I did.” Congratulations, Heather!
We heard this week that the annual “Run for the Dry Forest” is coming up in October at Pu’uWa’aWa’a Forest Reserve. Rochelle, Heather, Cynthia Hoskins and I are considering entering. If you’d like to join us, check the Pu’uWa’aWa’a Facebook page for more details. Or, for information about other races, swimming or bike events coming up soon on the Island of Hawaii, check bigislandraces.com for the 2012 race schedule.
See you on the road–or trail!
